Supporting arts
Dublin City Council established the Lab in 2005 as a municipal arts hub, housing gallery, rehearsal and incubation spaces for a range of art forms. The LAB Gallery supports emerging art practices and delivers a year-round programme of free events for all ages. In addition to Dublin City Council, the LAB Gallery is supported by the Arts Council.

Flexible branding
The Lab wanted to amplify its profile and presence in the city for the artistic and civic community it services. Working with the Arts Office to create this new branding, we began with a series of brand workshops to align the vision and discover the brand essence. After these discussions, we developed the tone of voice and visual into a flexible brand identity system.

The space in between
Fundamentally, art is about seeing before words, seeing what everybody sees, but thinking what nobody else thinks. Art is in the space in between. Working with typographer Bobby Tannam, we created a custom typeface inspired by the spaces in between spaces in the city. The new font, Replica Art, has a series of options for the letters ‘ART’ to reflect the variety of different ways art can be created.

New logo
Two main colours were selected – blue representing art via International Klein Blue (IKB), and orange representing opportunity. The language of art can often be complex, so through colour and form, we made the tone of voice open and inclusive.
